Julie Siler Olander's art "House on 3rd" was accepted. It tells a story perseverance, strength and beauty.

STORM STORY:

In the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, amidst the wreckage and loss, emerges a testament to the beauty of resilience. My submitted art piece bears the marks of destruction, submerged in the unforgiving floodwaters, but it stands as a powerful symbol of gratitude for life and the enduring strength of home.

As I surveyed the remnants of my submerged artworks, my heart was heavy with sorrow for the thousands of dollars of art that had succumbed to the destructive force of the storm (On top of the destruction and loss that so many in SWFL faced). Yet, amid the wreckage, I found solace in the realization that my home, family and friends survived the storm.

The art piece tells a story of survival and renewal. Its matting, warped and crinkled, bears witness to the flooding, while the lingering dirt serves as a poignant reminder of the storm it weathered. And yet, amidst the chaos, the vibrant colors of the home, the flora, and the fauna within the artwork persist, refusing to be extinguished.

It stands as a visual metaphor, reminding us that even in the face of destruction, life finds a way to persist, and beauty emerges from the depths of despair. My heart goes out to all those affected by Hurricane Ian.
